Since the EU’s General Product Safety Regulation came into force in December 2024, non-EU brands selling into Europe need a named EU Responsible Person on their packaging and marketplace listings. Most small brands don’t have one yet.
The EU Responsible Person is a legal requirement under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), which came into force in December 2024. If you’re a UK, US, or non-EU brand selling physical products to EU consumers, whether through Amazon, distributors, or your own website – you need one.
What does an EU Responsible Person do? They act as the official EU contact point for your product. If a market authority has questions about your product’s safety or documentation, they contact the RP. Your RP address must appear on your product packaging and marketplace listings.
Who needs one? Any non-EU brand selling physical products into the EU market. This includes UK brands post-Brexit, US brands, and Asian manufacturers selling direct.
What happens if you don’t have one? Amazon and other EU marketplaces are already flagging listings without a valid RP. You risk listing suspension, fines, and being blocked from EU distribution.
How to get one? Garay Quality provides EU Responsible Person services for small product brands starting from €350/year. Get in touch at www.Garayquality.com or joaquin@garayquality.com.
